A series of partial figures of a man, juxtaposed. 24/92
Juan Genoves has described himself as a "pictorial journalist," and regards himself as providing the public with facts and images. He, like other second-wave Post-War Spanish artists, chooses to express himself in realistic terms rather than abstract images. Similar to Emmet William's illustrations in style, these two prints are still quite different in subject and viewpoint. As well as having a white background with figures etched in black, Genoves deals with definitely human figures rather than human creations that are allusions to mankind. Broken Man is shown in eight different contexts, half of them of the upper body contorting in an agonized state, and the other half views of a foot that stands upon nothing and is accompanied by a rifle-like shape. The man may be broken in anger, or the victim may be broken by an unidentified assailant with a gun.
