In the painting Woman with Colored Scarf, the viewer's eye is first drawn to the bright red hem of the scarf on the woman's lap, which stands out against the pastel background. The eye then moves up to the bright white top the woman is wearing and her faceless head. From there the viewer notices the background, which appears to be a domestic setting.
