This tray, perhas made as late as the 19th century, is made of semi-translucent spinach jade with applied white jade handles. The handles are deeply carved and undercut, and depict chimeras. This object is of a type which, when held up to the light, may show a pattern which resembles a landscape. This type of reuse of old jade to make new pieces was popular in the Qing period. This kind of dark green nephrite is probably from Manas, Tianshan Mountain area.
