Thsi seal has a calligraphic carving on its base and an open, arched handle. In Chinese art, balance is best expressed in seal design. Seals were very important for officials, as they carried his rank and authority in the insignia. They were personal signatures representative of consent to the individual. This may be a collector seal, rather than a personal seal that would have been used.
