Multiple branches bearing seed pods intertwine around the body and cover of this 18th century caved turquoise vase. The form of a cricket can be seen clinging to the branches on the left side of the vase's body and a smaller cricket is apparent upon the carved leaves of the cover. For the Chinese, the cricket is an emblem of courage and the symbol of summer.
