Bearing the inscriptions “Natif de Morocco, Paulanas converti a la Religion Xenne, mendicante dans les Rues a Rome 1750” and “Questi Segni sono dal Cav. Conca-e sono interessanti Bapp.ti quest’uomo” in later hands.
This figure, of African descent, is one of the few depictions of people of color in the collection. With its hurried lines and haphazard use of wash, it appears to be a quick sketch of a figure seen on the street.
