This attempt at precise draftsmanship, often seen in works taken from the nude or from the antique, betrays its student origin. The attribution to Mehus is not unlikely in view of what is known of his work, which is of equal technical accomplishment.

Soft shadows, offset by swift strokes in the hair, face, and arms, predominate in this drawing, which could be a studio model or a study for a painting. The artist does not achieve a proper sense of foreshortening or gravity in the figure, and the hands and feet seem poorly modeled. This is unusual, as the artist displays an excellent eye for shadows on the left side of the page. He has also bunched the figure into the left side, demonstrating a lack of skill in composition. Although the artist certainly has talent, there are too many inconsistencies in this study to rate this as a very fine example of figure drawing from life.
