Bears the inscription “Onorio Marinari” in later hand.
The woman in this drawing, crowned by Cupid and holding a palette in her left hand, is presented as an allegory of painting.
Wall label from the exhibition The Curious Drawings of Doctor Clapp, UAG, October 24–December 6, 2019.

While the personification cannot be fully identified, the presence of the rectangular artist's pallette in the young woman's left hand would indicate it is painting whom the putto seated on pillows to the left reaches out to crown with a wreath of leaves. The outline of a frame around the sketch would seem to indicate that the drawing has reached a final stage, although the specific final work to which it may belong cannot be identified. In lightness of tone and execution this sketch attributed to Marinari recalls the frescoes executed by Pietro da Cortona for the Palazzo Pitti in Florence at a time when Marinari would have been a student there, confirming the possibility of the attribution.
