"While wheat is the leading Pennsylvania farm crop, corn is second in importance, and first in value. Grains, collected at Reading, were floated to market down the Schuylkill River to Philadelphia as early as 1750. Modern truck farms have developed near the larger cities to supply the demand of metropolitan areas. Pennsylvania is among the first twelve states in the country in the production of corn." (D.
