"Gettysburg, site of the decisive Civil War battle that bears its name, lies eight miles north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Today it is best known for its National Military Park which covers 2,394 acres, and the Soldiers' National Cemetery with 3,604 graves. More than 2,000 markers and monuments commemorate the Civil War." (D. Grafty, "Pennsylvania as Artists See it: The Gimbel PA Art Collection", 1948)
