Black and gray washes showing 4 miners with lit headlamps shaking coal forward in trough called "shake shute".
"After coal has been mined at the face it is transported to the main shaft by shaking it forward in a trough called a shaker shute. The shuffling movement produced by cams bounces the coal along and gives the shute its name." (D. Grafty, "Pennsylvania as Artists See it: The Gimbel PA Art Collection", 1948)
