Fisherman in blue stream with gray rocky banks and blossoming green bushes, two horseback riders crossing small trestle bridge over fisherman.
"The trout fisherman is a familiar sight along Pennsylvania's well-stocked streams, and horseback riding is another popular sport in the extensive Pocono recreational area. In late Spring blossoming laurel, the State Flower, covers whole hillsides with flowering growth." (D. Grafty, "Pennsylvania as Artists See it: The Gimbel PA Art Collection", 1948)

For this picture, the artist rejects the traditional Western conventions of landscape painting. Instead of giving an illusion of depth and perspective, the artist renders the scene with a certain flatness. Nature is suggested here as a place of leisure. (Isabelle Chartier, "Shifting Ground", Fall 2017)
