Arched print; at upper left Peter is crucified facing down; people are gathering at the bottom of the stairs; putti on a cloud with the palm of the martyr. The Martyrdom of St. Peter indicates the name of the painter (Passignani at the lower right of the print). The UAG owns two copies of this print: a first state and a second state. This is another painted composition for St Peter's by a Florentine artist, Domenico Cresti, il Passignano (b. 1559-1638), who worked in Rome between 1602 and 1616. Pope Clement VIII commissioned him to paint this Crucifixion of St Peter, which marked a successful career in Rome for the artist.
