This vase has fine enamel decoration in the form of multi-color chrysanthemums and apple blossoms. The bulbous base and narrow throat are derived from the curves of the female form. The vase is fashioned in this shape for holding peonies and orchids. It has a narrow neck so that the warm water with which it is filled will not emit a bad odor.

This vase has a Ch'ien Lung seal on the bottom. There is a possibilty that the seal is forged. The town of Ching Te-chen was the great pottery center of China. Atfer the reign of Ch'ien Lung (1736-1796) much of the town was destroyed. With the decline of the dynasty, the population became impoverished. The invasion and cruel exploitation of the country led to a debasement in the standard of art as well as craftmanship. A Ch'ien Lung Seal, therefore, brought a much higher price. These vases are mates from the collection.
