On this painting is the signature of Zhoa Bo Ju, who was active from 1127 and was part of the royal family of the Song emperor (Song dynasty - AD 90-19). Zhoa Bo Ju was famous for figural an landscape paintings in the "blue green" style. This painting follows this man's style, but presents Taoist subject matter, possibly representing the legenday eight Taoist deities who had magical powers. Being in the style of Zhoa Bo Ju, his signature is included, but this painting is no earlier than the Ch'ing dynasty (1644-1911).
